In the top-flight GT3 class, the familiar pink Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 1 of Gregor Drasal will be looking to fight for overall podiums and victories. A regular in national-level GT competition, Drasal has raced Lamborghinis for numerous seasons, initially with a Super Trofeo-spec Huracán. Now, with a lot of GT3 mileage under his belt, he will be looking to put his name on the earliest pages of the GT Summer Series record book.
In the Cup 4 class, the spectators at the Preis der Stadt Stuttgart will be treated to more Lamborghini V10 music, thanks to the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 of Franz Binder.
Binder, 65, raced in Formula 3 Germany throughout the late-80s and early-90s, competing against young talents such as Michael Schumacher, Tom Kristensen, Mika Häkkinen and Heinz-Harald Frentzen. He also raced Formula 3 cars in his native Austria, winning the nation’s Formula 3 Cup in 1987. The Binder family has a significant legacy in motorsport beyond Franz; brother Hans started 15 Grands Prix between 1976 and 1978. Franz’s son – René – won the 2021 Asian Le Mans LMP2 class, and has been a consistently impressive presence on the prototype racing scene in recent seasons. Prior to that, René Binder competed in single seaters, including IndyCar, the FIA Formula Two Championship and its predecessor, GP2.
The Leipert team, founded in 2002, has cultivated a reputation as a leading light among Lamborghini squads, and the wider GT racing community. Having won over two-dozen teams’ titles and 30 drivers’ titles across German, pan-European and intercontinental motorsport, Leipert arrives to the GT Summer Series with one of the most glittering résumés in the paddock.
The first-ever weekend of action in the GT Summer Series will take place as part of the Preis der Stadt Stuttgart event at Hockenheim, from 17-19 April.
