GT Summer Series set to be decided at Hockenheim

Heading into the decider, Thomas Westarp holds a strong advantage in the overall championship. The CCS Racing Audi driver has already secured the GT3 AM title, and holds a 28-point lead in the overall standings. His score after two class wins at Spa is 190 points. Westarp’s closest rivals – Cup 2 competitors Marco Reinbold and Paul Hochberger  – will need to finish strongly in all three races, and rely on a tricky weekend for the champion-elect.

Westarp is set to have plentiful competition in GT3 AM this weekend, as two new entries join the fray. Car Collection Motorsport will arrive with a Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo for Patrick Grütter and Bernhard Wagner, marking a rare sprint race outing for the pair. With significant experience in Porsche Cup and GT4 machinery in long-distance competition, a GT3-spec car in Summer Series action will mark a change of pace for the Swiss-Austrian pairing.

Also joining GT3 AM is Sendom Racing Team’s Seweryn Mazur. The Polish racer has been a regular in the Winter Series, and has extensive experience in his Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2; it will be a competitive addition to the field. Land-Motorsport and Stefan Wieninger (Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo) return after a strong series debut at the Nürburgring, while series Regulars Berthold Gruhn (Audi) and Martin Hansen (Porsche) round out the category.

GT3 PRO-AM sees a single entry, as DB Motorsport’s Hermann Speck is once again joined by Alfred Renauer. GT3 PRO will once again house the Haupt Racing Team Ford Mustang GT3, driven by Antoine Berberich-Martini and David Schumacher.

Marco Reinbold and Paul Hochberger come into the finale leading the Cup 2 class, and are positioned as Thomas Westarp’s closest rivals in the overall points. The XR Racing pairing head into Hockenheim with an eight-point advantage over season-long rival Mike Janser, who also holds an outsiders’ chance at winning the overall championship. The Cup 2 battle – contested in Porsche 992 Cup machinery – has been a highlight of the GT Summer Series season. And, with Porsche maestro Joseph Warhurst joining Janser in the #69 SA Performance entry, it’s sure to be an intense run to the final chequered flag.

The Cup 2 class will be further enhanced by a third SA Performance entry. Alongside Janser and series regular Urs Frick, the talented Fabienne Wohlwend joins the garage. The highly-experienced racer has had previous experience in the Winter Series paddock, and will be the first female competitor in the Summer Series. Swiss outfit Porsche BSL Racing Team will round-out the Cup 2 order, making its first GT Summer Series debut with a single car entered for Lorenz Nef.

The GT4 AM class at Hockenheim will be composed of the primary protagonists from the season. W&S Motorsport’s Gökay Kutlu and Alexander Danzer will be looking to wrap up the title in their Porsche Cayman GT4 RS CS. With 134 points on the board, Kutlu and Danzer will be looking over their shoulders in the three races. Despite missing the first round of the season, Tristan Gschwendtner (East Racing Motorsport) is just 14 points behind, and will do everything he can to take the fight to his fellow Porsche drivers.

Tobias Erdmann and Bernd Schaible complete the GT4 AM order, in the familiar Seyffarth Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT4.

The GT Summer Series season finale will take place from 2-4 October. The three races will take place as part of the ADAC Racing Weekend at Hockenheim, and tickets are available for just €15 a day. The live action will be broadcast on the Summer Series YouTube channel, with both English and German feeds available.
