GT SUMMER SERIES: The big interview (part 3)

Marketing Manager of GEDLICH Racing, Mart Hilgenberg, on the topic of the "Fan Cam“ project.

The GT Summer Series does not aim to reinvent GT-motorsport, but rather to redefine key aspects. To achieve this, organizer Gedlich Racing is introducing innovative concepts. In this comprehensive interview, the responsible parties address relevant questions.

Mart, your marketing team is launching the “Fan Cam” for the GT Summer Series. What is it?
MH: Motorsport is one of the most fascinating sports worldwide. The emotions it evokes are unique. However, in conversations with fans, we repeatedly hear about a certain distance between spectators and the motorsport scene. There is a lack of insight into what happens behind the scenes, which individuals contribute to a race’s success, and how much dedication each person brings. This is exactly where we want to make a difference.

How will this work in practice? What sets the Fan Cam apart from the live broadcast?
MH: The livestream coverage provides a comprehensive view of the entire race action on the track over an extended period. The speed, the duels, and the drivers’ handling of the technology form a key appeal of motorsport, which is perfectly delivered to viewers’ living rooms. Nevertheless, deeper behind-the-scenes insights are missing. This is where the Fan Cam comes in. It focuses almost exclusively on the people who make success possible and offers glimpses into their daily lives in motorsport and at the racetrack. Whether mechanics, truck drivers, team principals, or sponsors – we visit them all and take the fans along.

Who hosts the Fan Cam, and how can viewers tune in?
MH: The Fan Cam is hosted by a motorsport enthusiast who steps into the role of a typical spectator. The moderator is someone passionate about motorsport and its various facets. The Fan Cam reporter is filmed by another person. The broadcast is streamed live via social media channels, allowing fans to access it anytime. Whether at home, on the go, or on vacation – fans can switch on the Fan Cam whenever they want. Re-Live videos will be uploaded to the racing series’ YouTube channel too.

Which people do you want to highlight with the Fan Cam?
MH: Everyone that fans are interested in. Of course, the drivers are always a point of interest, as they bring the courage and ambition to participate in races and achieve strong placements. From many conversations, we know that fans are equally interested in the teams’ activities that prepare a vehicle for the start. There are countless stories to tell – from the mechanic who mounts and manages tires, to the chef handling catering, to the sponsor providing financial support. Each contributes a building block to success. Everyone is important and committed. We want to showcase these heroes of motorsport. In addition, the Fan Cam will also cover technology, partners, tires and their functionality, or the organization of the GT Summer Series.

What effect would you most wish for in terms of the Fan Cam?
MH: The goal is an optimal integration of all media and an optimal experience for all involved. The objective is achieved when fans, sponsors, etc., watch the live stream and Fan Cam in parallel, resulting in a more intense experience that brings them closer to the protagonists of the “GT Summer Series”.
